SHAYLA’S Q&A:

One word to describe yourself. Why did you choose this word?

Unique- I believe this word describes me best because I like being different; I like to stand out from the crowd... my style, my personality, my character.I recognize that life can be challenging at times and that I must show myself and others kindness, attention, care, and understanding as I nurture myself and others through that struggle.

Who are you as an individual?

I am a mother, a daughter, and a professional. I try to portray strength and inner beauty, especially for my children.

Why do you want to be photographed?

I believe this will not only reveal my outer beauty, but also bring out that inner beauty that was lost in being a mother, a daughter, and professional; the inner beauty that was put on the back-burner while helping those around me see their beauty and strength.

In your opinion, what are some stigmas and beliefs that women face after they turn 30?

That they (we) must compete with those under 30 in regards to our body types/shapes, hair, skin tone,  style, and personality.

What advice do you have for other women in their 30s?

Embrace all of you. Your style, your quirkiness, and your own beauty.

What do you currently love about yourself?

I love that I'm at the point in my life where I’m ok with being me... natural me, quiet me, social me.

How do you hope to feel or look in your portraits?

 Strong in my own self.
